Crème Brûlée French Toast



I seriously love this recipe! My family has been making this Crème Brûlée French Toast for literally decades! It’s so easy, but tastes like you put hours into making this dish! Rich, decadent and oh, so easy!! Tastes like love on a plate, yes, love can be sweet or savory, but today it is sweet! Ooh la la, fresh out of the oven and you will be transported out of this world…enjoy your trip!

Crème Brûlée French Toast is not only a brilliant brunch star but literally a decadent dessert as well. Or a lovely snack for those of us that will eat this incredibly rich custard soaked French bread anytime of day and let’s be honest, we will not feel guilty! No, you cannot shame us!!

There are so many scrumptious variations of Crème Brûlée French Toast, you could lose yourself in the of creation new and exotic flavors to tempt yourself and guests. You just can’t go wrong with any combination, add-ins or extras. The difference with this particular recipe is the Crème Brûlée part of the French Toast recipe. This little extra something something is what makes all the difference in this delicate creation. It’s just made with butter, brown sugar and honey but it will take French Toast bakes to a whole new level.

The simplicity of making Crème Brûlée French Toast is insanely easy. It takes just a few minutes to combine the brown sugar, honey and butter. Pour it into a 9X13 pan. Press the toast into the Crème Brûlée and then pour the custardy goodness over the toast. Cover then let the refrigerator and time do all the work. The custard soaks into deeply into the toast to bake up into the crème de la crème of breakfast entrees.

In the morning just bring it out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature. Pop it into the oven and let the aromatic nirvana envelope your morning! Top it off with a little whipped cream, strawberries and a drizzle of maple syrup! You could have anarchy on your hands unless you have a second one ready to go…

Ingredients & Preparation

The Usual Suspects:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 loaf of French bread (stale bread works the best)
  • 7 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. Grand Marnier (optional)

The Plan:

  • In a heavy saucepan melt the butter, brown sugar and honey over medium heat, stirring until smooth and blended.
  • Pour into a 13×9 baking dish.
  • Cut the French bread into one inch thick slices and layer into baking dish pressing the bread into the brown sugar & butter mixture.
  • Press the slices tightly together to get as much French bread into the pan as possible.
  • Whisk the eggs, cream, vanilla and Grand Marnier together and pour over the bread.
  • Cover and chill overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bring toast to room temperature and then place in the oven.
  • Bake for about 40 minutes or until the bread is golden and puffed up.
  • Garnish with whipped cream, strawberries and maple syrup.
